Hi. I hope someone can help me. I have a has water heater amd it seems to only work when it wants to. Regardless of amount of use some days I have got water and some days it runs out of hot water immediately even if it hasn't been used all day. And some days it runs out half way through a shower. I have already turned the temperature almost all the way up and nothing is helping. Is there a way too fix this or is it time for a replacement?
Sewer main lines are mysterious places because, until recently, no one had any idea of the nature of the blockage. Roto-Rooter and other emergency plumbers would run the augering rooter machine down the line and hope that it adequately chewed through the obstruction to get the waste running again. But sewer video machines now allow plumbers and homeowners to see exactly what is blocking the line.
The straight sections of plumbing systems are called "pipes" or "tubes". A pipe is typically formed via casting or welding, whereas a tube is made through extrusion. Pipe normally has thicker walls and may be threaded or welded, while tubing is thinner-walled and requires special joining techniques such as brazing, compression fitting, crimping, or for plastics, solvent welding. These joining techniques are discussed in more detail in the piping and plumbing fittings article.

Apprentice plumber: Apprenticeship programs generally provide the most comprehensive training for novice plumbers. Either union locals and their affiliated companies or nonunion contractor organizations can administer this training. Apprenticeships typically consist of at least three to four years of paid, on-the-job training and some hours of related classroom instruction.

Sid called ahead and let me know what time he would show up. He arrived on time and quickly determined what needed to be fixed and explained it. He needed to make a few trips out to his truck to grab tools/supplies and put shoe covers on each time he entered the house. He quickly fixed our issue and cleaned up when he was finished. Great service from Sid!
Today Eduardo came to our home to fix the upstairs toilet. I noticed a water stain on my ceiling a couple months ago, and after measuring the distance from the wall, traced it to the toilet upstairs. I called another highly rated company on Yelp before calling Eduardo, and it was extremely difficult to get a pricing estimate from the woman who picked up. When I finally did get an estimate (after answering many of her questions) it ended up being much higher than what Eduardo charges. I definitely recommend giving Eduardo a call if you need help. He is straightforward, honest, and was instantly able to give me a price for a toilet reset. He was also upfront about additional costs if the fix ended up being more complicated, and could logically explain his pricing to me. I immediately felt like I could trust him to clearly identify problems and charge a fair price for his work. My parents don't speak much English, but he was very patient with us today while I translated for them, which I truly appreciate. When he came by today, he explained what he was doing step by step; he was very clear about the pros, cons, and costs associated with our different options. Eduardo's attitude is great, and I feel like he genuinely wanted to help us. Definitely the kind of person who you want to work with. My parents have already passed his information onto all of their church friends, and I have him saved as a contact in case I ever need help again. Thank you Eduardo! :)
Most large cities today pipe solid wastes to sewage treatment plants in order to separate and partially purify the water, before emptying into streams or other bodies of water. For potable water use, galvanized iron piping was commonplace in the United States from the late 1800s until around 1960. After that period, copper piping took over, first soft copper with flared fittings, then with rigid copper tubing utilizing soldered fittings.

Concerned about household water usage? Consider installing a low-flow showerhead. Water is usually the second-most expensive utility in the home, and the shower is one of the main uses of water in the home (after the washing machine). Low-flow showerhead installation can save you up to $200 a year on water bills, as well as having a positive effect on the environment.

Other pipe repair techniques include our Pipe Pull™ technique and pipe relining. The Pipe Pull™ technique interchanges damaged sewer or water lines with new piping by the use of a tiny hole at the front and back of the piping run. The broken sewer line guides the new piping into place. All new replacement pipes have a projected lifespan of one hundred years and are code compliant, chemical-resistant, root-resistant, and leak proof. Another effective technique is pipe relining. Pipe relining essentially gets rid of the need for broken pipe removal. By inserting a hardening lining material which coats the inside of the existing pipe, a new pipe is created inside the broken one.
If drains handled clear water only, they’d work great all the time. But household drains are required to deal with soap, grease, hair, dirt and all sorts of items that can clog them up. The professionals at ARS®/Rescue Rooter® have the training and tools to handle any kind of drain-cleaning challenge to get all your drains cleaned and working properly again. From sinks, showers and bathtubs to toilet and floor drains, we can make sure all your drains are doing their job.

Estimating a plumbing job is best left to the professionals. However, our guides linked to throughout this article are the best first step to understanding pricing. Understanding basic plumbing is an excellent second step. Not only does this help you diagnose potential problems before they become costly ones, but it’ll help you understand what a plumber does.

Cast iron and ductile iron pipe was long a lower-cost alternative to copper, before the advent of durable plastic materials but special non-conductive fittings must be used where transitions are to be made to other metallic pipes, except for terminal fittings, in order to avoid corrosion owing to electrochemical reactions between dissimilar metals (see galvanic cell).[18]

Sewer lines can become clogged in either of two ways: obstructions that build up in the line from usage or obstructions that intrude on the line from outside. Over time, greases, fats, hair, and other items sent down the branch drains can build up on the walls of the sewer line and narrow its capacity. When that capacity is low enough, showers and tubs will not drain and toilets will not flush properly. Another way that a sewer line's capacity can be compromised is when elements outside of the line, namely tree roots, enter the line. Despite the strength of sewer pipe materials, tree roots' growth can be strong enough to penetrate the line.
For many centuries, lead was the favoured material for water pipes, because its malleability made it practical to work into the desired shape. (Such use was so common that the word "plumbing" derives from plumbum, the Latin word for lead.) This was a source of lead-related health problems in the years before the health hazards of ingesting lead were fully understood; among these were stillbirths and high rates of infant mortality. Lead water pipes were still widely used in the early 20th century, and remain in many households. In addition, lead-tin alloy solder was commonly used to join copper pipes, but modern practice uses tin-antimony alloy solder instead, in order to eliminate lead hazards.[13]

He needed to make a few trips out to his truck to grab tools/supplies and put shoe covers on each time he entered the house. He quickly fixed our issue and cleaned up when he was finished. Great service from Sid! Just had another visit to fix a leaking meter horn. Andrew called 20 minutes before he arrived and quickly decided what needed repair. He didn't have the exact part needed on his truck, but he was able to get it from the warehouse quickly. He fixed our issue and cleaned up the area well. Thanks to Andrew and Ben Franklin Plumbing for fixing our plumbing problem on Christmas Eve!

Finally I get to write my fantastic review of Eduardo after the holidays! I had problems with my toilet, the tank refilling every hour. In addition, i noticed one of the rubber pieces disintegrating at the base. I did not trust myself after googling how to fix this problem. After looking at the fantastic reviews on YELP for this company, I chose to call Eduardo. Eduardo was very nice and gave me a proposed estimate on the phone, also giving me options if I had wanted to purchase any pieces on my own to save cost. He came the day after and immediately got to work. Eduardo was neat, wearing shoe covers into the house, and also wiping down the tank after unscrewing it off the toilet. I really appreciated this. Eduardo also knew everything he was doing without hesitation. He was super friendly and gave me plenty of tips as he was working away! Later that evening there was an issue, of the tank water leaking into the toilet. After calling Edward, he came right back and replaced one of the pieces I had purchased with one of his preferred brands. I was shocked that a brand new piece could be defective. But Eduardo was quite certain that was the problem! Sure enough, after Eduardo reinstalled that piece, my toilet has been running like a charm! Eduardo is surely the person I will call for future plumbing needs! He really cares about his customers and the work he does for them! And btw, even though he had to come back a second time, he had the best of attitudes, and only wanted to get the job done right! Thanks, Eduardo!! Happy New Years!!!!! A definite A+++++ job!!! “Don’t go to the Yellow Pages to find a plumber,” says Berkey’s Bill Stevens. “It’s like guessing lottery numbers. Anyone can make an appealing ad, but that doesn’t mean they are legitimate. In this industry, it’s easy for a plumber who develops a poor reputation to advertise under a different name. They come and go.” Even searching for someone online may end up being a scam using fake reviews. Instead, look for a plumber who is well-established in your community. Check the Better Business Bureau and read customer reviews at sites such as HomeAdvisor, Angie’s List, or Citysearch. Local contractors or plumbing fixture stores can also refer you to a quality plumber, according to Grady Daniel, who owns a plumbing company in Austin, Texas. “Most of these firms won’t work with bad plumbers.” Or simply ask your neighbors for a referral. A trusted plumber that consistently delivers quality service does not remain a secret for very long.
